Boston Street Lab is a nonprofit producer of temporary cultural and civic programs in downtown Boston.
Why
We need vibrant, livable cities to help solve our short-term economic problems and address long-term sustainability issues.
Successful cities need experimentation and a mix of uses at street level.
Boston Street Lab finds ways to pilot cultural and civic programs in dense, urban environments. We believe this will improve and accelerate plans for permanent urban projects in Boston. It will also make for a more interesting and vibrant city today.
Mission
- pilot cultural and civic programming ideas so they can be experienced and evaluated today,
- model how cities can move forward in tough economic times to activate urban space and serve communities,
- broaden what we expect from the city and improve city life.
- developing expertise in implementing temporary programs,
- documenting and sharing expertise so others can do this work,
- wrapping up and dissolving Street Lab in five years time.
How
Boston Street Lab's role can include:
- program design and development
- project management and program operations
- getting resources (funding, supplies, volunteers)
- outreach, partnerships, and public relations
- identifying and securing space
- site permitting and insurance
- evaluation and documentation
