Leading a children’s story hour can be a challenge, even for experienced librarians. Today, Laura Jean Miller, a graduate of the Simmons Graduate Program in Library and Information Sciences and coordinator of our twice-weekly (and often bi-lingual) Storefront Library Storytime, offered an in-depth workshop for staff about strategies for reading to kids. She covered methods for getting kids’ attention, warming them up for storytime, and using rhymes and games. The session was videotaped so other Library Staff can view it on the Storefront Library Intranet.

In the weeks ahead, we’ll begin the process of publishing the details of how the Storefront Library is operated by our staff and used by our patrons. We’re looking forward to sharing what we’ve learned.
